HAL-made Dhruv ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) is an indigenously built
twin engine, multi-role, multi-mission new generation helicopter in the 5.5
ton weight class. It is used in multiple operations by the Indian Air Force,
the Indian Navy as well as the Indian Army. It is also used for civilian
purposes, such as, Air ambulance, ferrying VIPs, Search and Rescue
operations. The Founder was extensively trained in Advanced Composites
when he was deputed to Eurocopters, Germany in 1986. He was one of
the first Engineers from India to be trained in this technology. He had a
significant role to play in the development of the Dhruv helicopter. The first
flight of Dhruv was in 1990 after a very short development period (a
remarkable achievement in the Aviation world).
